FAQ - getting married in italy 2010

1. Is wedding in Italy or Sicily legitimate? On this issue you do not need to worry. Weddings in Italy / Sicily are absolutely legal.

2. What documents do I need to provide to marry in Italy or Sicily? Typically it is a set of documents. Documents required for the wedding in Italy/ Sicily

  for British citizens are

- original Certificates of Non Impediment issued by the UK Registrar Important: it’s necessary to get 2 different certificates of no impediment (one for the bride and one for the groom).

- original copy of long birth certificates (the one showing parents' names)

- photocopy of passports ( all pages).

- original previous marriage certificates (if applicable)

- original absolute decree of divorce (if applicable)

- original deed poll (if applicable)

   for Irish citizens are

-certificat de Coutume (certificate stating that you are free to marry). It is issued by the Consular Section of the Department of Foreign Affair in Dublin.

-completed Statutory Declaration (MP2)

-long Form Birth Certificate

-photocopy of passport Certified copy (all pages)

3 Where should we send the above-mentioned documents? To our office in Italy. Address is to be provided after your request

4. I Have recently been divorced, can I get remarried in Italy in a legal civil ceremony?  Italian law states that for women 300 days must have passed since the date of the Decree Absolute, before they can re-marry. This does not apply to the groom.

5. When should I start preparing for a wedding? We suggest to plan your ceremony at least 3 months in advance to make sure that all the papers are in order.

6.Do I need witnesses and interpreter in my wedding in Italy/Sicily? Yes, you need. An official interpreter is usually included in our services. If you have no family or friends who can also act as witnesses, we provide witnesses as well.

7. When do I get a marriage certificate? After the ceremony, legally husband and wife will be issued marriage certificate, which in some cases should be legalized in your country. Marriage certificate is usually issued straight after marriage. However, sometimes, it may take a week or so.

8. How much does a wedding in Italy cost? The most economic ceremonies are in Sicily. So, a week-long trip to Sicily with registration in the Old Town Hall will cost about 5000 euros for two. This price already includes essential services: maintenance , government taxes and fees, document preparation, the wedding coordinator, transfers, champagne and the legalization of marriage certificate, a flight economy class, accommodation . Some additional services (decorated carriage, which the bride and groom ride up to the town hall, banquet, bouquets of flowers) are agreed in advance.

The total cost of your wedding depends on your choices (photography, flowers, reception venue, etc.) and the number of guests. Quotation wiil be prepared after filling in the submission form
